Khoki debuted its Fall/Winter 2023 collection at Tokyo Fashion Week, bringing a sense of mystical fantasy to the runway. The label is just as much a collective as it is a brand, focusing on the art of fashion as opposed to the typical ready-to-wear structures.

The brand features a full whimsical storyline that sees dramatic silhouettes and imaginative creatures come to life on the runway. Pieces are bold, eye-catching and in some ways, ghoulish. The first look arrived with a modernization of the priest uniform from the Medieval period, followed by outfits highlighted with a contemporary witches hat and elf-like characters. Combining mystic elements, the collection was an eerie presentation of “elven princesses, snow witches, and impish goblins,” as per Ashley Ogawa Clarke.

Khoki takes on fictional characters often found in youth novels, creating a collection reminiscent of a whimsical costume design for fantastical features. While overexaggerated silhouettes are highlighted in the various textures, fabrics and overlaying, many of the pieces take from traditional shapes that highlight the brand’s craftsmanship and patchwork. The collection features unique renditions of denim on denim looks, while also portraying its own unique graphics on bright intarsia waters. Oversized blazers and coats are highlighted with movement, every step of the way.
