Scotland's New National Team Jersey Encapsulates Football Heritage
Made in celebration of the national team’s 150th anniversary.
adidas Football and the Scottish Football Association have just presented a special edition football jersey to celebrate the Scottish national team’s 150th anniversary.
Football is biblical in the lands of Scotland. From the intensity of Rangers and Celtic’s Old Firm Derby to the heated clashes between Hibernian and Hearts, Scottish club football defines areas, relationships, and culture — arguably, more than anywhere. However, the vast majority of club rivalry tends to vanish when its national team plays, and this has been encapsulated perfectly in the country’s new national kit.
With this in mind, the new Scotland jersey draws inspiration from the first “uniform” worn by the Scotland players during the nation’s first match against England in 1872. The design reflects Scotland’s football heritage with a simplistic design that’s dominated by hues of dark blue throughout. Additionally, the design is rounded off with a white collar and woven crest, while the customary Lion Rampant is highlighted in gold against a tonal crest.
Meanwhile, the striped sleeve cuffs nod to the importance of Queen’s Park FC, who formed the basis of Scotland’s earliest national team during its inception. The shirt also includes modern technology; the AEROREADY fabrications add a splash of modern-day comfort — made from 100% recycled materials — as part of adidas’ efforts to help end plastic waste.

Additionally, you will be able to see it IRL for the first time when Scotland’s Mens National Team takes on Cyprus in their UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying match on March 25. The Scotland Women’s National Team will also wear the jersey against Costa Rica on April 11 and to further mark the 150th anniversary, the shirt will be worn by the Scotland Men’s National Team in a special anniversary friendly match against England at Hampden Park on September 12.
