LEGO Goes Off-Road With New 2,336-Piece Land Rover Defender Set
The company’s newest brick-based car rolls out on July 1.
Every year, LEGO unveils a new brick-based car that will be joining its ranks. In 2022, the company launched its take on a famed Chevy vehicle, the Camaro Z28.
For 2023, LEGO has returned with yet another LEGO Icons set to excite automotive enthusiasts. This year’s car is a Land Rover Defender, a light green edition of the boxy SUV model. It also arrives in the same year that the Land Rover brand celebrates its 75th anniversary.
Giving builders an intricate project to work on, the set is composed of 2,336 pieces. The design pulled inspiration from the timeless yet ever-evolving look of the Defender between 1983 to 2016.
Along with the actual car, the set also contains accessories for off-road journeys, including an extra tire, gas cans, jumper cables and more.
To commemorate the launch of the set, LEGO placed a yellow classic Land Rover Defender in the Scottish Highlands, turning the vehicle into the hardest-to-reach LEGO Store in the world.
Two adventurers were then tapped to make the off-road trek to the store: Raha Moharrak, the first Saudi woman to climb Mount Everest and the Seven Summits, and Scottish extreme locations expert Aldo Kane.
Priced at $239.99 USD, the LEGO Icons Classic Land Rover Defender set will be available online beginning on July 1.
In other toy news, Disney showed off its retractable Star Wars lightsaber.
