As usual, Olivier Rousteing‘s Balmain stormed Paris Fashion Week to present its Fall/Winter 2023 collection — habitually, it did not disappoint. Last season, Balmain crafted a showcase like no other, debuting the Balmain Festival inside Paris’ Stade Jean Bouin. Here, 12,000 members of the Balmain Army came together under one roof, while this season saw Rousteing keep antics intimate by hosting his latest presentation in the capital’s Le Carreau du Temple.

For FW23, the Balmain Creative Director recalls the legacy of Pierre Balmain along with the luxury French style that defined his brand from the jump. As an homage to the 78-year-old House, the collection meditates on Balmain’s lengthy history by simultaneously comprehending the past and looking to the future.

The collection is enchanted by historical House cues reflecting the transformational journey that outlines the Balmain mentality. Lavish suede suiting featured oversized silver lapels stimulated by the body in motion and worked alongside grandiose bow ties, textured corsets, statement hats, and metallic polka-dot prints that credit its founder’s trademark designs.

Sensual necklines were revealed through and through, honoring the beauty of the female form at every point. The first half of the range previewed dynamic black-and-white looks for the modern woman and utilized contemporary materials with an opulent shine. Mohair ensembles followed in vibrant teal tones, while aviation-inspired checkered uniforms strolled next to lightweight summer dresses and structural silk eveningwear that glistened under the spotlight with a royal identity. Finally, anatomical garments outlined human proportions with a pearl construction, while others bloomed into formation with sheer coatings that revealed delicate figures beneath.
