Grand Seiko Previews Its SBGC253 Spring Drive Chronograph GMT
Inspired and in homage to the brand’s emblematic lion symbol.

The latest offering to Grand Seiko’s sport collection is the SBGC253 Spring Drive Chronograph GMT. Crafted with the watchmaker’s emblematic lion symbol in mind, the timepiece poses as an homage to the beast via its various characteristics.
Starting from the case, its sharp and angular corners emulate the lion’s claw. Connecting the case with its link bracelet are hairline-finished lugs, which are distinguished from the Zaratsu-polished elements. Both the case and bracelet are made of high-intensity titanium, which is not only brighter than the usual stainless steel build but also much lighter in terms of weight and comfort. Its curved lugs also allow the piece to sit easily on the wrist, thanks to a low center of gravity.
Adorning the dial is a “lion’s mane” textured pattern in ivory white that shines with brilliance at every angle where the light hits. The indices as well as the hands are crafted to enhance legibility and are coated with green Lumibrite. Meanwhile, the bezel and the GMT hand are coated in blue for visibility in the dark. On a technical note, the SBGC253 is designed to withstand 20ATM of water resistance, as the 9R86 caliber powers the watch for up to 72 hours.
The SBGC253 Grand Seiko Spring Drive Chronograph GMT is set to release in March, with a retail price of $12,000 USD. Head over to Grand Seiko’s website for more details.
