Brooklyn-based design label William Ellery’s expedition equipment looks to reshape what it means to “explore the outdoors.” After introducing functional “Beachcomber Gear” earlier this year, the brand has returned with an all-new Ultralight Down Jacket, made in partnership with Japanese down expert Nanga.

Built for the world of Ultralight backpacking (or the practice of backpacking with a bag that weighs less than 10lbs), William Ellery’s coat prioritizes utilitarianism with an expandable front mesh pocket for storing gear. Additionally, the mesh pocket turns into a stowage pouch for the jacket itself, and once contained, the coat doubles as a pillow.

In the spirit of Ultralight design, William Ellery’s creative director Trevor Davis will host a tongue-in-cheek pop-up event on November 11 at Brooklyn’s Hatchet Supply Co., where he will be trimming off weight from attendees’ chosen items from 2 p.m. ET to 6 p.m. ET. “Anyone can bring whatever they want to me and I will make it lighter,” explained Davis. “Shoes too heavy? I’ll replace the shoelaces with lighter cord. 6 grams. Water bottle too heavy? I’ll write max fill around three quarters of the way up. 45 grams.”

William Ellery’s Ultralight Down Jacket will be on sale at the pop-up event before it become available to shop on the brand’s webstore on November 12. The coat will be priced at $549.98 USD. Take a closer look at the design in the gallery above.
