In Geneva, a new restaurant that perfectly embodies the city’s history of watchmaking and love for gourmet has recently opened. Brought to life by Michelin-starred chef, Dominique Gauthier and François-Paul Journe, the founder and master watchmaker of his namesake luxury watch brand, F.P. Journe.

Located on the luxury street of Rue du Rhône, the “F.P.Journe Le Restaurant” now takes over a historical establishment previously occupied by a renowned brasserie known as La Bavaria. Although “La Bavaria” first opened its doors in 1912, it wasn’t until 1942 that it debuted its iconic interiors featuring dark oak paneling and ceilings that are incorporated with geometrically patterned formwork. In keeping the charming decor of its predecessor, the new restaurant underwent four years of renovation that involved updating the site’s decaying architectural structure.

Leading the charge on decoration, Journe has imbued a horological identity consistently throughout the establishment — from the 17th-century astronomical clock at the heart of the restaurant, cutlery adorned with watchmaking motifs, to posters of technical drawings on the walls, as well as tables that are named after famous include watchmakers. On top of that, the three tasting menus are named after iconic F. P. Journe watch models.

The menu was handled by Dominique Gauthier, comprised of his signature Mediterranean style, stylized with bursts of citrus and spice inspired by his travels in Thailand. Fans of the chef are sure to spot his iconic dishes on the menu, which include the scampis in kadaïf and hare ravioli with truffles.

Visit the restaurant’s official website to view the full menu, make a reservation, or find out more about the history of the establishment.
