T1 Defeats Weibo Gaming To Win 2023 'League of Legends' World Championship
Marking the team’s first title in seven years and making Faker the only player to win four championships.
South Korea’s T1 toppled China’s Weibo Gaming to take home the 2023 League of Legends World Championship.
The annual esports event took place at Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome and saw T1 dominate Weibo Gaming 3-0, officially earning their fourth championship title and their first since 2016. The South Korean team finally made its long-awaited comeback after coming close in 2022, placing second after champions and fellow South Korean team DRX. Top laner Choi “Zeus” Woo-je was named the finals MVP.
Just like his team’s win, the championship also marks Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok’s fourth title and his first in seven years. He is now the first and only League of Legends player to take home four champions, winning the title a decade after he won his first.
Elsewhere in gaming, Lewis Hamilton and his dog joined the Fortnite universe.
