Aniefok Ekpoudom To Publish His Debut Book Exploring the History of UK Rap and Grime
Titled ‘Where We Come From: Rap, Home and Hope in Modern Britain.’
British writer and journalist, Aniefok Ekpoudom is releasing his first book, Where We Come From: Rap, Home and Hope in Modern Britain, and it’s set to be published in 2024.
The book will explore Ekpoudom’s travels through South London, the West Midlands, South Wales, and more, encapsulating the story of UK rap; from its inception through to today, where the genre is blossoming more than ever. Additionally, Ekpoudom will tell the story of how migration and a spirit of resistance have shaped the music that the UK has produced.
Fellow writer and critic, Candice Carty-Williams, describes the book as “a stunning exploration of a genre, a movement, and a world,” while Yomi Adegoke dubs it as a piece of “landmark work that will undoubtedly shape conversations about not just UK rap and grime, but British music for years to come.”
In celebration of the release of Here We Come From: Rap, Home and Hope in Modern Britain, Aniefok Ekpoudom will be discussing the book at the Queen Elizabeth Hall at the Southbank Centre, London, and will be joined by Candice Carty-Williams and chair Yomi Ṣode.
