Netflix has recently taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to reveal that The Umbrella Academy is returning for just a fourth and final season. With filming wrapped this summer, the superhero-comedy-drama series by Steve Blackman is based on the comics of the same name.

The series originally made its debut in February 2019, with the most recent having dropped in June 2022. Since its arrival on the platform, it has been largely believed to be one of the most popular Netflix Originals superhero series of all time. While the season four announcement has taken a bit longer than expected, Netflix has confirmed the renewal of the series for a final adventure. Previously when the announcement was first made in 2022, Steve Blackman said about the renewal, “I’m so excited that the incredibly loyal fans of The Umbrella Academy will be able to experience the fitting end to the Hargreeves siblings’ journey we began five years ago. But before we get to that conclusion, we’ve got an amazing story ahead for season four, one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes.”

The announcement of the 2024 release was made on October 1, the birthdate of the seven Hargreeves siblings who were all born to different mothers around the world on the same day in 1989 and adopted by eccentric billionaire Reginald Hargreeves, each of the siblings has their own superpower. Over the course of their life, Reginald trained them into a group of adolescent crime-fighting superheroes. However, as they became adults, they became estranged from one another only reconnecting after Reginald’s death. The series stars Elliot Page, Aidan Gallagher, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Justin H. Min, and Ritu Arya. The final season sees the addition of David Cross, Nick Offerman, and Megan Mullally to the cast and only six episodes as opposed to the usual 10.
