Sillage Upcycles for a Unique Artisanal Collection
Each garment is hand-made by artisans in Tokyo and Okayama.

Nicolas Yuthanan Chalmeau likes to wear big and he invites you to do the same. His Sillage label mostly consists of one-size garments that are inspired by the many cultures of the world, but meticulously crafted by artisans in Japan. Recently, the French-born, Tokyo-based designer released capsule collections highlighted by gorgeous Harris Tweed and Sashiko fabrics, along with a down collection with subtle floral details.
To follow, Sillage presents the latest entries in the brand’s artisanal collection. The Wide Pocket Overshirt was created after a long search to find an alternative to the standard button-up. “My partner and I have been working hard to advance our designs here at Sillage without losing the brand’s identity,” said Chalmeau in a statement, adding “our latest focus being on creating a shirt that goes beyond the typical ‘shirt’, and the new Wide Pocket Overshirt is the long-awaited fruit of our labor.” The blue-dominant garment is made with an array of upcycled antique fabrics that were cut into small square patches and sewn together by artisans in Tokyo and Okayama.
Similarly, the Padded Muffler is reworked in upcycled military fabrics to create a hybrid blanket-puffer that drapes over the body and has two hand pockets to anchor the garment down. Due to the hand-made nature, no two items in the artisanal collection are the same. The Wide Pocket Overshirt has since sold out, but the Padded Muffler is available in a number of options for ¥80,000 YEN / $625 USD.
