JID Debuts Heart-Wrenching Visual for Single “Money”
Chasing last month’s emotional “Dance Now” video.
Last month, JID shared a thoughtful but dark music video for his song with Kenny Mason, “Dance Now.” The rapper-singer has now returned with an official visual for another The Forever Story cut, “Money.”
The video follows two young brothers in the countryside of what’s likely Georgia, JID’s home state. The brothers explore their surroundings, running outside and jumping on an abandoned mattress.
After unsuccessfully attempting to buy a pair of expensive sneakers, the brothers return home to discover their mother unconscious.
Dissecting complex emotions such as grief and loneliness is a common thread in JID’s music, particularly on his latest LP, The Forever Story. The artist even sampled audio from his grandmother’s funeral for the project, which opens the album’s first track, “Kody Blu 31.”
“The way it starts is actually at my grandma’s funeral,” JID told Apple Music’s Ebro Darden last month. “I have the actual footage. I’m sitting there crying, holding the phone, recording this, because I know it’s a big moment.”
