After what would be nine years since its original premiere, CW‘s The Flash television series is finally coming to an end with its ninth season that’s currently scheduled to air in 2023. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show had intended to conclude with season eight but the studio ultimately managed to sign a new deal with lead star Grant Gustin as well as some of the other cast members for one final, but abbreviated, season, with 13 more episodes to come next year.

The past season made The Flash one of the network’s most-watched shows in the 2021-2022 broadcast cycle, averaging more than one million viewers per episode while being one of CW’s most streamed series digitally as well.

“Nine seasons! Nine years of saving Central City while taking audiences on an emotional journey full of heart, humor and spectacle. And now Barry Allen has reached the starting gate for his last race,” said executive producer and showrunner Eric Wallace. “So many amazing people have given their talents, time and love to bring this wonderful show to life each week. So, as we get ready to honor the show’s incredible legacy with our exciting final chapter, I want to say thank you to our phenomenal cast, writers, producers and crew over the years who helped make The Flash such an unforgettable experience for audiences around the world.”

There’s no precise release date for the ninth and final season of The Flash yet, but production is due to begin next month.

Elsewhere in entertainment, Thor: Love and Thunder has now become the Thor franchise’s lowest-rated film on Rotten Tomatoes.
