Tensions are high in the fifth season of Netflix’s Cobra Kai. The streamer has released the series’ official trailer for the new season, promising more action-packed karate sequences and even a fight set at the local water park.

As the evil Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) works on strengthening Cobra Kai’s reign by recruiting new students and bringing in new senseis, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) team up to figure out a plan to bring him, and Cobra Kai, down for good.

Following last season’s All Valley Tournament, which left one young competitor with a broken nose and unexpectedly eliminated another, the rivalry between Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai has never been more intense. Cobra Kai continues to feed students its “No Mercy” approach to karate, while Miyagi-Do temporarily goes on hiatus.

“This is what we’re up against,” LaRusso says about his longtime rival, Silver. “This is how everyone sees him: as some kind of philanthropist out to save the kids of the Valley.”

Cobra Kai takes place 30 years after the events of 1984’s The Karate Kid, which saw a young LaRusso and Lawrence face off against one another. Griffith is reprising his role as Silver from 1989’s The Karate Kid Part III.

John Kreese (Martin Kove), meanwhile, is behind bars after being framed by Silver in his mission to take control of the dojo.

Cobra Kai season five debuts on Netflix on September 9. Watch the official trailer for the new season above.
