Twitter underwent a global outage earlier this morning, beginning at 8 a.m. ET/5 a.m. PT. Users attempting to use the platform were confronted with glitches and messages saying “error” or even that the website was broken.

According to the internet outage tracker Down Detector, Twitter service was restored by 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT. The outage lasted approximately 45 minutes. While that window of time may not sound like much, it’s the longest outage Twitter has had since 2016, when it was unavailable for over two hours.

“Some of you are having issues accessing Twitter and we’re working to get it back up and running for everyone,” the company tweeted at 9:10 a.m. “Thanks for sticking with us.”

The reason for the outage is still unknown. Twitter said on its status page that the company is currently “investigating” the issue.
