Mr. Bailey Teases Second Installment of Upcoming adidas Originals Collaboration
Continuing the underwater biological theme.
Following last year’s “Ammonite Superstar” — reinventing adidas Originals‘ staple silhouette — Mr. Bailey has taken to Instagram to tease a new sneaker titled “Phase [01] Incubation” for the second installment of the pair’s partnership.
In the elusive post, the industrial designer holds up the collaborative shoe in front of a white light with only the silhouette of the mid-top sneaker made visible and no indication of what the model might be. Much like the “Ammonite Superstar” was inspired by mollusk seashells, Mr. Bailey continues the underwater theme for this drop as “AN UNDERWATER EXPERIMENT” introduces the collaboration.
Resembling either a jellyfish or an amniotic sac, the translucent co-branded packaging — crafted from cellulose and sugar cane — isn’t anything like your typical sneaker box. Bearing the subject title “LIFECYCLE OF AURELIA AURITA” (more commonly known as the moon jellyfish), “MATERIAL RESEARCH & BIOLOGY” ends the product description, as well as a QR code taking you to the adidas CONFIRMED app. The numbers “07:03:07:08:04” are also seen on the back of the packaging, which may allude to the sneaker’s release date.
Known for his extravagant art-meets-streetwear design sensibilities and taking classic silhouettes to next level, expect this sneaker to be larger than life and have extensive material development behind it.
