Jacquemus “Le Papier” Fall 2022 Presents a Vision of Tonal Elegance
Held at the salt marshes of Aigues-Mortes in the south of France.
One thing that remains constant about Simon Porte Jacquemus is his decision to showcase his collections in some of the world’s most scenic locations. From Valensole’s lavender fields to the blissful beaches of Oahu, Hawai’i for the brand’s SS22 show, the continued magic arises from Jacquemus’ fusion of location and design. This time around, the label headed to the salt marshes of Aigues-Mortes in the south of France for its Fall 2022 “Le Papier” runway show.
“I started working on the collection with the obsession to restart from nothing, like a white page,” Jacquemus told Vogue.
Matching the salt hills, the collection was largely dipped in shades of white and beige with subtle inserts of rust, olive green and brown. Menswear pieces took form in relaxed suiting, knitwear, technical yet minimal coats and cargo pants. Relaxed constructions have always been a hallmark of Jacquemus menswear, but this collection loosened the silhouettes a bit more. Tailoring served as a collection highlight via reconstructed blazers, asymmetrical hems and layered styling via draped skirts and puffer vests.
Re-inserting the brand’s pristinely minimal, yet contemporary design cadence, womenswear pieces came to life through cropped tops, structured tailoring and dresses. Harboring burlap fabrications, dresses were elevated with scrunched detailing, sleek shapes, pleated volume and tulle attachments. Through color and design, Jacquemus’ pieces always remain relatively simple, but he continuously finds a way to make the simple sexy, modern and original.
Aside from uplifted garments, another runway show highlight was the new Jacquemus x Nike Humara sneaker.
