NANZUKA Announced Representation of American Artist Hebru Brantley
In anticipation of his upcoming work at Art Basel Hong Kong.

NANZUKA has announced representation of the contemporary American artist, Hebru Brantley. Well-known for his Afro-futuristic characters, the Chiacgo-born, Los Angeles-based artist recontexualizes pop culture to empower the Black community.
Back in November, Brantley presented a joint exhibition of work titled “Mythos Opus Pt. 2 & 3” at NANZUKA’s outposts in Tokyo. The presentation of drawings, paintings and sculptures referenced a range of comic characters, such as Batman, and invited the viewer to ruminate on questions of manhood. Through a pop art sensibility, Brantley seeks to challenge the traditional view of the hero or protagonist and insists on a contemporary and distinct narrative that impacts and instills viewers with new perspectives.
Coinciding with the upcoming Art Basel Hong Kong, the gallery will present a selection of Brantley’s latest work at Booth: 1C22. The fair returns to an in-person viewing next week from May 27-29.
