New 'Elvis' Trailer Sees Austin Butler Transform Into the King of Rock and Roll
The Baz Luhrmann-directed film also stars Tom Hanks, Olivia DeJonge and more.
Warner Bros. on Monday dropped off the second official trailer for Elvis, Baz Luhrmann‘s upcoming biopic on the “King of Rock and Roll” starring Austin Butler.
The trailer provides a closer look at the film’s exploration of Elvis Presley‘s (Butler) life and career through the lens of his complicated relationship with his manager Colonel Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks.
“The story delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America,” the official synopsis reads. “Central to that journey is one of the most significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).”
Aside from Butler, Hanks and DeJonge, the movie stars Helen Thomson as Elvis’ mother Gladys, Richard Roxburgh as Elvis’ father Vernon, Luke Bracey as Jerry Schilling, Natasha Bassett as Dixie Locke, David Wenham as Hank Snow, Kevin Harrison Jr. as B.B. King, Xavier Samuel as Scotty Moore and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Jimmie Rodgers Snow.
Luhrmann is directing the film, which marks his first project since 2013’s The Great Gatsby, based on a script he co-wrote with Sam Bromell, Craig Pearce and Jeremy Doner.
Elvis will premiere in theaters on June 24. Watch the official trailer above.
