Lizzie Armanto Unveils Her First Signature Shoe With Vans Skateboarding
The Lizzie is Vans’ first signature skateboarding shoe designed by a woman in 20 years.
Very seldom does the sneaker industry see females receive their own signature silhouettes, but Vans Skateboarding is here to shake up the game. American-Finnish professional skateboarder Lizzie Armanto has now been tapped by the Anaheim-based company to design her own model, and it’s fittingly titled The Lizzie. This historical moment marks Vans’ first signature skateboarding shoe designed by a woman in 20 years.
“I really enjoyed the process of creating a shoe from the ground up,” Lizzie said when reflecting on her newest offering. “I felt compelled to make a shoe that is simple, functional, feels good on your feet and has a bit of soul, and feel proud of what we were able to accomplish.”
Lizzie wanted a shoe that represented her completely—from a slimmer fit tailored to her foot shape, to a leaner outsole for a closer connection to her board and improved flexibility. The impact cushioning in typical skate shoes left Lizzie feeling like she was floating above her board, so Vans listened to create a new low-profile footbed.
Various details of the clean sneaker are tailored to her fit preferences and performance needs on the ramps. The new vulcanized build has a lower profile sidewall foxing tape, exposed outsole edge and flex grooves for a smooth, broken-in-type feel. 3D Embossed DURACAP™ toe and Sidestripes enhance the kicks with more durability and the fresh micro-waffle treading and Sick-Stick™ rubber proffers premium grip. Dominated by a faint grayish-white hue from the top to midsoles, the shoes are detailed with her initials on the tongues as well as her first and last names on the heel flaps that can only be seen when raised up. Botanical patterns are present on the interior of the shoes to call out her affinity for plants.
Dropping alongside the kicks are a black knit tank, melon-colored short sleeve mini tee, bucket hat, crew socks and a waist pack.
The Lizzie Armanto Collection will be available March 10 via Vans Skateboarding retailers and Vans.
