Goodhood and Folk Celebrate the Life of Daniel Johnston
Including t-shirts and more that feature Johnston’s illustrations.
London-based labels Goodhood and Folk have teamed up for a collaborative capsule collection that celebrates the life of Daniel Johnston. The American musician and visual artist was known for his work in the lo-fi and alternative music space, in addition to his childlike illustrations.
Launching today, the capsule collection embodies the eccentric essence of Johnston through a range of shirts, home goods and accessories. White short-sleeve t-shirts, accent pillows and tote bags feature Goodhood’s favorite Daniel Johnston drawings that include colorful characters and people.
“It was an honor to be asked to be involved in this project; we’ve all been admirers of Daniel Johnston’s work since it came to prominence in the mid-90s,” said Goodhood co-founders, Jo Sindle and Kyle Stewart. “Being given the opportunity to dip into the archive was a special experience and one that we took great care & consideration in doing; we looked for a way to represent his art as truthfully as possible on garments. Daniel Johnston’s legacy and particularly the light that he shone on mental health issues is as pertinent today as it was during his prolific life.”
A portion of the sales from the capsule collection will benefit the Hi, How Are You Project, which is a non-profit organization working to remove the stigma surrounding mental health.
Ranging in price from £55-£250 GBP (about $73-$334 USD), the collection is available now in-store and on Goodhood’s website.
