Liverpool Football Club have agreed terms with PSV Eindhoven to sign Dutch winger Cody Gakpo. According to a report by the BBC, the transfer fee will range between €40 to 50m EUR ($43 to $53m USD).

Gakpo, 23, was one of the young stars to break out this past FIFA World Cup in Qatar, as he led The Netherlands with three goals — tying for fifth in the race for the Golden Boot award. Emblematic of his performance during the tournament, the young winger brings explosive pace, technical footwork, superb crossing and heading ability within the box.

The move to sign Gakpo comes at the chagrin of Liverpool’s most fierce rival, Manchester United, who recently met with the Dutch winger’s representatives. “The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England imminently where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer,” wrote a tweet by PSV.

Liverpool hopes Gakpo will help sustain pressure in the club’s pursuit of the Premier League trophy as a number of players are sidelined with injuries, including Diogo Jota, Luis Díaz, Roberto Firmino and James Milner.

In related news, Lionel Messi has reportedly reached verbal commitment to extend Paris Saint-Germain contract.
