British girl band FLO has just been announced as the winner of the BRITs Rising Star Award — and it’s the first-ever group to take home the trophy.

Recently, the BRITS announced the shortlist for the award, and FLO was listed alongside Yorkshire-raised DJ, Nia Archives and singer-songwriter, Cat Burns. Previously known as the “Critics Choice Award,” the prestigious achievement was launched in 2008, and since, it’s successfully spotlighted future stars of U.K. music with winners coming in the form of Adele, Florence + The Machine, Sam Smith, Ellie Goulding, Sam Fender, and Celeste.

However, as of last night, FLO became the latest name to be added to the list after the announcement was broadcasted on Clara Amfo’s BBC Radio 1 Future Sounds show. Comprising of Renée, Jorja, and Stella, the trio dropped their debut single, “Cardboard Box” seven months ago and the record garnered high-profile fans such as Brandy, JoJo, SZA, Victoria Monét, Missy Elliott, and girl group royalty Kelly Rowland and Sugababes.

Hot on the heels of its debut release, FLO quickly followed up with its debut E.P., The Lead, in the summer of 2022. The project — which has since gone on to pick up over 70 million streams and Gold status — has brought a Best Newcomer nomination at the MOBO Awards, as well as live performances on late-night TV show Jimmy Kimmel and the U.K.’s Later…with Jools Holland. Speaking about the award, FLO said:

“From growing up watching the BRITSs, to finding each other and forming FLO, releasing our first body of work in 2022, and winning a BRIT in the same year! We are so shocked and grateful. We are the first group to win the BRITs Rising Star — we’ve just made history and couldn’t have done it without our wonderful fans and supportive families. It’s truly a dream come true. We feel so empowered creating the music we love and we hope others feel that too.”

In other music news, Travis Scott is headlining Rolling Loud Thailand.
