Watch the First Gameplay Teaser for ‘Dune: Awakening’
Dropping players into the deadly planet Arrakis.
Funcom has shared a first look at its forthcoming survival title Dune: Awakening with a pre-alpha gameplay teaser. The first-person sci-fi game combines open world and MMO into a highly customizable adventure that offers the opportunity to craft one’s own identity and skill set and develop specialized abilities or be a jack of all trades.
Players will begin their journey in the vivid and deadly landscape of the planet Arrakis. From canyons to villages to seemingly endless deserts, they’ll be able to explore the planet on their mission to not only survive, but rise to power.
Among the challenges they will encounter are bandits, Coriolis storms, lack of water and needing to build a sufficient shelter. To actually gain power, they’ll also have to engage in direct combat varying between infantry, ground and flying vehicles. To aid in their ascent, players can create a guild and ally with one of the Great Houses to transform it into a House Minor.
“Working with a universe as rich and expansive as Dune is the perfect fit for Funcom’s drive to create compelling multiplayer open worlds,” Dune: Awakening Creative Director Joel Bylos said. “With Dune: Awakening, we’re trying to push the boundaries of what people expect in the Survival space – and I can’t wait until we can get it into your hands.”
