The Future Perfect to Debut 30 New Pieces at Design Miami
From a sofa made from resin balloons to a ceramics collection based on the power of femininity.
At this year’s Design Miami, The Future Perfect is set to present a new collection of collectible design pieces – from a loveseat that looks to be made from balloons to a ceiling lamp that looks like a starry sky.
At the fair, the gallery will bring along new works from its roster of designers, presenting a total of 30 new pieces. Across the collection, an emphasis has been placed on material exploration. Typical of The Future Perfect’s curation style, tactility is key, and pieces all have a distinctly handcrafted look about them.
Highlights across the collection range from Seungjin Yang’s beige loveseat, which sees made out of resin-cast balloons joined together to create a sofa, to a ceramic standing mirror designed by Floris Wubben, which has an almost character-like shape, complete with lamps on its sides.
“Encompassing pieces that convey [our] signature curatorial sensibility with its emphasis on nuanced material investigations that beckon discovery through intimacy and tactility, this presentation sees the artists pushing the limits of their own craftsmanship,” adds the gallery.
Cody Hoyt is set to present his largest piece of work to date in the Wall Console, while both Chris Wolston and Bradley Bowers stay true to their core aesthetic, presenting pieces that are an evolution of existing series. Chen Chen & Kai Williams will showcase a collaboration with Cody Hoyt, in which the team has developed new shapes and ceramic inlays to create a pair of mirrors. Gallery newcomers Leena Similu and Dee Clements will individually present pieces based on femininity and its relationship to power and labor, and Dutch textile artist Claudy Jongstra will deubt a rug made from rare wool using ancient felting techniques.
Design Miami officially kicks off next week and will run until December 4. Elsewhere in the city, Bottega Veneta will present the chairs designed by Italian icon, Gaetano Pesce, for its runway show, and the all-new Orient Express will open its doors to visitors.
