Sophie Bille Brahe Looks to the Clouds for New Jewelery Box
Crafted from polished steel.
Clouds have become a repeated motif throughout much of the work of Sophie Bille Brahe. The Danish jeweler often looks to the sky for inspiration, before transforming the shapes observed into silhouettes for objects.
Now, she turns her attention to a trinket box, which takes on the form of a fluffy, perfectly formed cloud. Made from polished steel, the hinged box opens to reveal a beige-colored satiny smooth leather interior and a mirror. On its underside, an inscription reading “SBB 2022” has been etched into the surface of the metal. The finished piece is distinctly Scandinavian in its execution – clean, minimal and elegant.
For Bille Brahe, the cloud motif represents something a little more conceptual, though – describing it as an “everlasting shape of a dream that remains untouched”. It’s also present in her Copenhagen showroom, where she designed cloud-shaped tables, especially for the space. The jewelry box is described as a “prolongation” of this design and sees it shrunk down to a trinket-sized level.
She continues:
“A jewelry box is a place where you put your dearest belongings, it is the keeper of your intimate dreams.”
Bille Brahe’s “Cloud Jewellery Box” is retailing for €1,150 (approximately $1,192 USD), and is available at the designer’s website, but also in selected luxury retailers.
