Moncler Delivers 70th-Anniversary Maya Jacket by Rick Owens
Available November 5.

In celebration of Moncler‘s 70th anniversary, the brand has launched the Moncler Maya 70 Collaborations: a series of seven reinventions of the label’s signature Maya jacket by seven industry-leading designers. Among them, Rick Owens has crafted a structural reinterpretation of the silhouette, out November 5.
Owens’ original design ethos encapsulates the Italian down jacket, with exaggerated shoulder-line inclusions in nylon laqué fabric and reversible functionality. While the exterior boasts a shiny appearance, the interior, when flipped, dons a smoother recycled nylon satin.
“I applied the architecturally quilted shoulders that I introduced in my men’s Fall/Winter 2021 collection called Gethsemane. It was one of the four shows I did on Venice’s lido beach in Italy during the Covid lockdowns. We refer to them as our girdered shoulders – symbolically meant to support the weight of contemporary adversities,” said Rick Owens, who selected Michèle Lamy for the campaign. “Michèle represents the intimate foundation, past, present, and future of my label. Her unfiltered barbaric elegance has always been one of my guiding stars.”
Rick Owens founded his namesake label in Los Angeles in 1994 and later moved the imprint to Paris in 2003. Aside from standard ready-to-wear collections, the visionary has expanded his line with diffusion collections including RICKOWENSLILIES and DRKSHDW. In 2005, he welcomed his own furniture line, which has since been exhibited at the Musée d’Art Moderne and Le Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
Aside from Owens, Moncler has tapped Thom Browne, Hiroshi Fujiwara for FRGMT, Pierpaolo Piccioli, Francesco Ragazzi for Palm Angels, Giambattista Valli and Pharrell Williams for Maya 70 reinventions.
The Moncler Maya 70 by Rick Owens will release at select Moncler stores and on Moncler’s website beginning November 5. Take a look at the honorary design above.
