mastermind JAPAN and Carhartt, both mainline and through Carhartt WIP, have a relationship that spans more than a decade. Hypebeast’s archives found a collaboration between the two in 2010, and plenty more year after year, and now the duo are back together for a seasonal eight-piece drop.

Under Masaaki Homma‘s seminal Japanese imprint and the Carhartt WIP division, the two put the focus on mastermind JAPAN’s cult following that’s infatuated with the label’s skull motif. Here, it adorns everything they’ve touched, including a zip-up anorak jacket, a Chore jacket, T-shirts of both long and short-sleeve forms, a hoodie, a fleecy pouch, and the standout pair of overalls.

The latter garment perfectly blends Carhartt WIP’s utilitarian, streetwear-tinged functionality with mastermind JAPAN’s sensibilities, those being confined to a palette of black and silver embroidered branding. Here, the skull graces the back of the garment, while pockets are done up with dual silver embroidery.

Likewise, the same motif frequents pieces in various forms — large-scale skeletons adorn the rear of hoodies, while tees get a custom piece of branding that blends mastermind JAPAN’s moniker with Carhartt WIP’s signature emblem. To keep things on theme, buttons are served in either silver or black and neck tag branding denoting the collaborative effort makes a thorough appearance.

Additional touches like silver hardware (seen on the neck of the Chore jacket or the overalls’ clips) round out the pieces. The collaboration will be available in Asia and the U.S.A. on November 12, and in Europe on November 19 at select Carhartt WIP stores. Take a closer look at the collection in the lookbook above.
