Why So Sad? is a mission for improving people’s mental health started by skateboarder John Rattray in 2019. After the first images were released early this summer, we now catch word of an official release date for the movement’s collaborative Nike SB Dunk Low.

“I hope that one day we’ll be able to talk about depression, anxiety and even suicidal thoughts the same way we talk about a swellbow. I hope that each of us will have the skills to help ourselves and each other through the storm whenever things get rough,” said Rattray in an interview.

The upcoming pairs arrive in a light blue leather base with darker blue wear-away panels which reveal a yellow base coating. Red Nike SB tags are stitched on the outside of the mesh tongues while “Why So Sad?” labels are fixed on the interior sides. The mission’s mascot, known as The Predatory Bird, can be found on the lateral heel counter embroidery cruising on a bike and on the mismatched insoles doing a handstand while skateboarding. Additional details include question mark motifs incorporated across the suede heel tabs and lace tips. Rounding out the design are white midsoles and semi-translucent icy rubber outsoles.

Take a closer look at the Why So Sad? x Nike SB Dunk Low above and expect the pairs to release November 4 via select skate shops for $120 USD.

Elsewhere in footwear, “Wheat Grass” lands on the Nike Zoom Vomero 5.
