Berlin-based Reference Festival has announced plans for its third edition, titled “Protopia.” The festival will take place alongside Berlin Fashion Week, and is a collaboration between creative studio Reference Studios and art institution Schinkel Pavillon.

Taking place at West Berlin’s Bierpinsel, Reference Festival will feature interdisciplinary showcases with a focus on fashion. Participants for the third edition include Berlin-based labels such as 032c and GmbH, as well as international names including Carhartt WIP and Phipps. Other names involved include OTTOLINGER, Mark Leckey and a music programme curated by PAN’s Bill Kouligas.

The title “Protopia” is a reference to the theme of the festival, which aims to establish an alternative to either utopia and dystopia. As part of the festival, futurist Monika Bielskyte looks at “Protopia Futures” and “a vast scope of many alternative futures which are continuously shaped not just by our actions but also by our inactions.”

The third Reference Festival is due to begin on September 6, and will run until September 13.

In other fashion news, London-based designer Bianca Saunders has collaborated with Farah.
