Morag Myerscough Connects the City of Coventry With New 'Endless Ribbon' Installation
Connecting Coventry’s Hertford Street through brilliant shades of color.
Morag Myerscough‘s colorful explorations have hit the Coventry high street. Entitled, ‘Endless Ribbon Connecting Us,’ the installation quite literally brings the color out over a covered plaza of Hertford Street.
The London-based artist states her influence came in part from John Piper and Patrick Reyntien’s stained glass windows, present at the Coventry Cathedral. Along with nods to the heritage of ribbon weaving, which was the city’s main form of industry from the 18th to mid-19th Century.
In a statement on the work, Myerscough notes:
“Community is at the heart of every project I do. We wanted to change perceptions of space by transforming the canopy walkway with fresh bold colour and an abundance of plants. Working with the food traders and surrounding shops, together we wanted to make a new destination for everyone that brings joy to an area that needed some love.”
As the 2021 City of Culture, ‘Endless Ribbon’ was made in conjunction with Coventry City Council and agency, Creative Giants. It joins Myerscough’s nearly 30-year career that spans wayfinding systems and cafe installations, to murals and various exhibitions.
