Lee Isaac Chung has reportedly exited the live-action adaptation of Makoto Shinkai‘s revered anime film, Your Name.

The Minari filmmaker was announced as Your Name.’s director in September 2020, joining producers and distributors Paramount Pictures, Toho and J.J. AbramsBad Robot. The studio is now supposedly “acting fast” to replace Chung, who was already named the second director after Marc Webb’s departure in 2019.

Previous reports have stated that Your Name. will have a “Western viewpoint” and will replace the original plot of a boy and girl living in Tokyo and Gifu to a boy from Chicago and a Native American girl in a rural town. Abrams is a big fan of the 2017 film, and he acted fast to acquire the rights.
