Comprising of three core Birkenstock silhouettes — the Arizona, Boston, and Rotterdam — each sport a black leather makeover that sticks with Owens’ signature dark aesthetic. Furthermore, the Arizona and Boston have also been given a foiled iridescent leather rework, which taps into the more playful and experimental side we’ve been seeing from the seminal designer’s work as of late.
Previously speaking exclusively to HYPEBEAST, Owens said: “In addition to our signature extended straps, I wanted everything in black — black leather, black patent leather and all-black hardware. In a busy, chaotic and garish world, black provides a clean and crisp graphic formality to my eyes.”
As mentioned, the pairs feature black hardware and straps that disguise the large array of Birkenstock branding. For example, embossing is matte and barely visible, while branded straps and buckles once again blend into the darkness. Finally, while we can tell there is no Rick Owens branding on the outside of any of the three silhouettes, however, previous collaborations suggest that the sandals’ insoles are stamped with dual branding to mark the collaborative effort.
