Uppers are constructed of finely-woven white nylon with sail leather Swooshes and heel cages plus sandy tan suede eyestays and mudguards. The main leather Swoosh is partially covered by a printed white Swoosh for the design’s first dash of doubled-up detailing, and nylon tongues are double-stacked as well: one offers Nike Sportswear tongue branding while the other supplies sacai graphic hits.
Two pairs of white laces arrive atop these tongues, and black sacai/Nike branding is stamped on the heel. Below this stamp sits the shoe’s signature detail, a curved midsole lip that’s provided by the top piece of the double-stacked white, sail and gray foam midsoles. On the very bottom, the look is completed by classic gum outsoles.
Apart from this “Sail” colorway, the Vaporwaffle is also set to release in other colorways like “Black/Gum” and “Dark Iris” over the course of 2021, and it’s even been made into a high-top by Jean Paul Gaultier. One of sacai’s other doubled-up sneakers, the LDWaffle will also be the subject of three-way collaborations from CLOT and fragment design alike.
As of now, an offical release date for the sacai x Nike Vaporwaffle “Sail” has yet to be announced, but it’ll likely hit retailers later this spring.
