21 Savage Reinvents The 'Saw' Theme Song With His New Single 'Spiral'
As executive producer of the upcoming film’s soundtrack.
21 Savage is known for infusing horror into his music — take his latest “Glock In My Lap” music video, for example, where he and Metro Boomin embark on a full-blown, blood-smearing zombie hunt. That ear for fear certainly comes in handy for the Atlanta rapper as the executive producer of the soundtrack for the newest film in the Saw franchise, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, which he announced on Instagram at the end of last month.
Today, the horrorcore producer dropped the first single off of the upcoming soundtrack — a modern interpretation of the series’ classic theme song, titled “Spiral.”
The track plays into the haunting sonics that elevate the terror of a typical thriller scene. Savage’s fast-paced bars bounce on a sinister beat, upholding a suspenseful cadence reminiscent of those in past Saw movies. Knife-sharpening sounds echo behind a growing melody, just before the rapper reaches the chorus, singing, “I’ma let ‘em spin like a spiral/I don’t got no love for no rival.”
The film itself centers on a police veteran, played by Samuel L. Jackson, a detective, played by Chris Rock, and a rookie, played by Max Minghella, who “take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past,” according to Lionsgate’s official synopsis.
21 Savage is also one of the many collaborators on DJ Khaled’s new album Khaled Khaled. See what the chart-topping DJ had to say about the new project during an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music.
