Celebrate the New Balance 991's 20th Anniversary with a New Made in the UK Colorway
The “Moonbeam/Navy” offers a slightly tweaked take on NB’s famous gray palette.
New Balance‘s 991 first made its way to market in 2001, so in tribute to its 20th anniversary NB has whipped up a new made in the UK colorway of its popular running-turned lifestyle silhouette. Following up the 990 and 990v2, the 991 was the first sneaker in the 99X series — which also includes the 992, 993, 990v4 and 990v5 — so its place in the line’s lineage is acknowledged by a color scheme that blends fresh and familiar.
Uppers retain a gray mesh base with a smattering of gray overlays on the toebox and around the collar, but the vast majority of space is occupied by a “Moonbeam” shade. This soft, earthy brownish gray appears on the toe cap, mudguard, heel and midfoot overlay for contrast, with a navy N logo hitting the midfoot and a 991 spellout on the heel. Tongues and lace keepers supply more navy hits, and the upper is secured by “Moonbeam” laces. Down below, two-tone tan and white midsoles boast navy blue detailing and black rubber outsoles finalize the look.
This made in the UK New Balance 991 is set to release at retailers like Fenom come February 26, and is priced at $200 USD.
