Bernie Sanders Comments on His Viral Meme
He even addresses his secret manila envelope.
Last week’s inauguration of President Joe Biden was met with a tremendous viewership (almost 34 million), and with that number of eyes, people couldn’t help but notice Bernie Sanders sitting arms crossed in a folding chair wearing large knitted mittens. That image was quickly turned into a meme, and in a blink of an eye, was one of the most circulated images on social media.
Curious as to what the 79-year-old senator felt about becoming an overnight meme sensation, Seth Meyers caught up with Sanders on his Late Night show to find out first hand. Sanders revealed that he has “seen ‘em” and that he was just “sitting there, trying to keep warm, trying to pay attention to what was going on.” He also revealed that the woman that made the mittens for him, a lady by the name of Jen Ellis from Essex Junction, Vermont, has been receiving a sea of requests commissioning her to make more mittens — a request she can not yet fulfill as she is a full-time school teacher and mother.
The energetic politician continued to show his fun side when asked what was in his manila envelope, replying with, “I’d love to tell you Seth. It’s top secret.”
I only know one truth…
