Bathe in Japan's Red Evangelion-Themed Hot Spring
Modeled after the anime’s “Second Impact.”

Hakone Kowakien Yunessun resort in Kanagawa, Japan has opened its doors to a Neon Genesis Evangelion-themed hot springs. All of the facility’s water is colored in red as a nod to a major event in the anime that caused the oceans to run red with blood — the “Second Impact.”
For a little background on the anime, the “Second Impact” was a cataclysmic event that happened in Antarctica, triggered by an experiment led by Dr. Katsuragi that went wrong, setting off a massive explosion that shifted the Earth’s axis and melted the ice caps. The hot springs feature a water slide named Rodeo Mountain, depicting “blood” rushing through the ice caps, a dimly lit cave and an orange bath that replicates the anime’s “L.C.L.” — a special fluid used to interface Evangelions with their pilots. But apart from the Evangelion-themed facilities, the hot springs also includes baths colored in red and brown to imitate wine and coffee.
Most recently, Japanese amusement parks have been discouraging screaming on roller coasters due to the pandemic.
