UPDATE (June 15, 2020): The official trailer for Star Wars: Squadrons is now available. The trailer shows cut scenes and action sequences of the game’s 5v5 multiplayer FPS mechanic, while setting the story of the continued fight between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance.
A release date has also been announced: Squadrons will release on October 2, 2020 for the following platforms: PlayStation®4, Xbox One, Origin PC, Steam, Epic Games Store, and PC. EA also purports cross-play functionality across systems.
An in-game footage video is also slated for June 18 at 7 p.m. EDT. Pre-orders for the game are now live as well, over at EA’s official website.
ORIGINAL STORY (June 13, 2020): Following a leak earlier on Friday on Microsoft’s Xbox website, EA has now seized the initiative and announced its latest installment to the Star Wars video game franchise: Star Wars: Squadrons.
So far, EA hasn’t released too much information on what the game entails, but the title’s name and the new poster published on Twitter would suggest that the upcoming experience will focus on aerial combat, featuring iconic ships like the X-Wing and Tie Fighter, allowing you to play on both the Rebel or Empire teams. VentureBeat has also suggested that the game will focus on dogfighting and include a single-player campaign, although the core of the game will still revolve around multiplayer, and will be released on both console platforms and PC.
For those interested in the upcoming Star Wars: Squadrons, EA will be debuting a full reveal trailer on Monday June 15 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time over on Youtube.
Elsewhere in gaming, it now seems that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will not be a standalone title.
