Shoreline Mafia member Rob Vicious has dropped his second solo project, Breakthrough. The new mixtape follows 2018’s Traplantic and arrives alongside a music video for lead single “L3V3L,” which was produced by Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul.
Speaking to HipHopDX about the song, Vicious shared that “it to me a year to come up with something to that beat.” He continued, “he made that for me and it was in my email for a year. I was in a Lyft and I played the beat and the first thing that came to me was the opening bar. I went to the studio and laid it and here we are now.”
In terms of how Breakthrough came together, Vicious noted via press release that “I learned you’ve got to do sh*t for yourself. I was tired of f*cking holding things back. I decided to let that sh*t go. When I finally did, I took a more mature to my life and my music.” This is reflected whole-heartedly throughout the project as Vicious continues to expel his West Coast-fused sound, reinventing his flows and lyricism through more melodically-geared, emotionally-clad bars. He dives into a more intimate showcasing of his tantalizing sound, delivering topics about family and friends, personal growth and battling inner demons, and more.
