The adidas Forum Gets Crafted In Xiangqi-Inspired Colorways
A nod to the ancient Chinese board game, in high and low-top form.

After being reimagined through the lenses of sneaker retailers Foot Patrol and Sneaker Politics earlier this fall, the adidas Forum is giving its collaborative dealings a quick breather and unloading two specially-crafted GR makeups. Pulling inspiration from ancient Chinese board games, the silhouette is remixed into a duo of colorways influenced by Xiangqi, a Chinese form of chess.
For these releases, the Three Stripes crew selects the silhouette’s high-top and low-top iterations to push to the forefront, and styles them with two contrasting color palettes. The heightened variation in this range is heavily dependent on an angelically-styled upper which comes couples with copper-coated overlays distributed towards the rear midsole and ankle collars, as well as notes of bold scarlet visible through the treading, sock liners and exposed stitching. Its release sibling bears a darker motif as its upper is treated with forest green leathers which are neighbored by foil-like, iridescent textures that lay across the toe boxes, in between the stripe logos and on the heels. Both installments directly nod to the Chinese game along the tongues which appropriately host images representative of the board and its pieces.
For parties interested in these adidas sneakers, they are available now at retailers like atmos for ¥16,000 (approx. $154 USD) and ¥14,000 (approx. $135 USD).
