The 2020 Billboard Music Awards, after a month-long delay, finally took place, with Post Malone securing the most nominations. The ceremony was intended to happen on April 29, but was pushed back due to concerns with COVID-19.

Held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Kelly Clarkson was the host of the event, marking the third year in a row for the singer. Malone came out on top with a total of 16 nominations, winning nine of them, trailing ahead of Lil Nas X with 13, followed by Billie Eilish and Khalid with 12 each. The most coveted award, Top Artist, went to Post Malone. Kanye West also appeared in a handful of nominations for gospel and Christian-related awards. Malone, along with Alicia Keys, Maluma, Bad Bunny, Doja Cat and Sia, to mention a few, each performed at the ceremony.
