Surviving Nirvana Members Reunite for One-Off Show
Along with special appearances from Beck, St. Vincent & Dave Grohl’s daughter.
The surviving members of Nirvana — drummer Dave Grohl, bassist Krist Novoselic and touring guitarist Pat Smear — came together for a one-off reunion show at the 2020 Art of Elysium’s Heaven Is Rock & Roll Gala fundraiser.
Performing a five-song set at the Hollywood Palladium, Grohl, Novoselic and Smear were joined by the likes of St. Vincent for the opener “Lithium,” Beck for “In Bloom,” “Been a Son” and a David Bowie cover of “The Man Who Sold The World” and Grohl’s 13-year-old daughter Violet for “Heart-Shaped Box.” All three special guests came on stage to sing the parts of late frontman Kurt Cobain.
The fundraiser marks the first time the remaining Nirvana members have performed together in over a year, following Novoselic joining Grohl and Smear for a six-song encore during the Foo Fighters‘ Cal Jam set in October 2018. Funds from the legendary grunge band’s special reunion and the Heaven Is Rock & Roll Gala will go to The Art of Elysium’s programs that aid communities and individuals undergoing physical, social, emotional or mental trouble.
