Maison Margiela Releases $1,400 USD Trench Coat-Inspired Shorts
John Galliano continues to deconstruct the classics.
After turning the simple black sweater into a distressed cape, it’s a little surprise that Maison Margiela creative director John Galliano has also given an experimental spin to a standard pair of shorts. The designer’s take on the piece draws inspiration from a classic trench coat, which has informed the belted design and draping silhouette of the sleek all-black bottoms.
Buttons line the front of the shorts and form a double-breasted closure to mimic that of a typical trench coat. Like many of Margiela’s pieces, the garment takes on a hand-crafted look through the use of frayed cutouts that are featured along the bottom hem. The back is constructed with an inverted pleat that lends a skirt-like shape, and the piece is then lined with tonal organza throughout for a streamlined finish.
Maison Margiela’s Deconstructed Trench-Style Shorts are priced at $1,380 USD and available now at Barney’s webstore.
