Shia Labeouf Plays His Own Father in Autobiographical Film 'Honey Boy'
Following the child actor’s life into adulthood.
One of the most well-received movies at Sundance Film Festival, Amazon Studios‘s Honey Boy is finally coming to theaters. The film is written by, stars, and follows actor Shia Labeouf‘s life as he goes from a child star into adulthood, filtered through the lens of fictionalized characters.
As seen in the teaser, Labeouf plays his own father, complete with a receding hairline and sideburns, while Noah Jupe and Lucas Hedges play versions of LaBeouf as a kid and a young adult. The film will follow Labeouf through the years during most of his controversial moments, like when he got arrested for public drunkenness in 2017. According to Deadline, “LaBeouf based the screenplay on his own experiences, telling the story, as Amazon describes, of a young actor’s stormy childhood and early adult years as he struggles to reconcile with his father and deal with his mental health.”
Directed by Alma Har’el, Honey Boy is set to hit theaters November 8.
