'Destiny 2' Meets 'XCOM' in New 'Disintegration' Gamescom Trailer
Developed by the co-creator of ‘Halo.’
Studio V1 Interactive, which was co-founded by Halo co-creator and ex-Bungie creative director Marcus Lehto five years ago, has finally announced its debut title, named Disintegration.
Dropping a small teaser trailer several weeks back, the game has now released a full cinematic and gameplay trailer at Gamescom, giving fans a glimpse of what the story would entail whilst showcasing its new gameplay mechanics. The trailer begins with a clip showing what may be the game’s protagonist approaching and boarding his grav-cycle — reminiscent of the hover bikes in both the Destiny games — while giving a monologue that suggests he’s in some form of rebellion against a government or an authority that has betrayed them.
The trailer then moves on to showcase the gameplay, which involves the player controlling the main character on the grav-cycle shooting at enemies with its arsenal of mounted cannons and blasters. On top of that, players will be in command of ground units that move and attack according to their instruction, much like the real-time strategy mechanics in XCOM. A combination of these two styles of gameplay is definitely a breath of fresh air into the increasingly-saturated sci-fi shooter genre.
For those interested, V1 Interactive’s Disintegration is slated for release some time in 2020, and will be available across PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Stay tuned as more news on the game is sure to surface.
Elsewhere in gaming, Square Enix has just dropped a 20-minute gameplay video for Marvel’s Avengers.
