The Duffer Brothers Break Down Every 'Stranger Things' Movie Reference
How many did you pick up on?
Netflix‘s Stranger Things has come up plenty of times in conversation, especially when it comes to what classic films the show has paid homage to.
Sitting down with the creatives over at WIRED, show creators Ross and Matt Duffer — also known as the Duffer Brothers — revealed every single retro film their hit sci-fi series has referenced. Along with the more obvious homages to movies such as 1977’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind, 1982’s E.T., and 1986’s Stand By Me, Stranger Things also paid tribute to 1975’s Jaws, 1983’s Risky Business and finally 1979’s Mad Max.
The 30-minute clip also includes side-to-side comparisons showcasing both the famous movie scene and how Stranger Things incorporated it. Watch the clip above and check out the list below to see (almost) every movie reference made in Stranger Things.
