Sony's New RX100 VII Is a Compact Image Powerhouse
Borrowing features from Sony’s flagship A9.
Sony continues to improve upon its RX100 platform with the newest version — the RX100 VII. As one of the top-picks for vloggers, many users prefer this compact camera for its image quality and flip-up screen. The main gripe of the previous model that was shared amongst all users was the lack of an audio input interface, leaving vloggers to come up with cumbersome yet inventive audio solutions. While this will come as a disappointment to those that have recently purchased the now-one-year-old RX100 VI, this addition of a microphone jack does at least let us know that Sony has been listening to its consumers.
On top of the audio upgrade, the new RX100 VII now packs lightning-quick, real-time tracking and eye autofocus — a tech that comes with the more expensive A9 mirrorless camera. Other features include a 24mm-200mm equivalent high-zoom Zeiss lens, a new stacked CMOS sensor, a pop-up viewfinder, 20fps of continuous shooting, 357 phase-detection points, 425 contrast detection points, a touch screen, and of course, optical SteadyShot for 4K video recording.
This powerful and compact tool for content creators will launch in August for $1,200 USD with a $1,300 USD Shooting Grip Kit Bundle scheduled to release at a slightly later date. Those interested can find the pre-order over at B&H Photo.
