Freddie Gibbs & Madlib Share the Title-Track Off Their New Album, "Bandana"
Featuring Jamaican dancehall artist Assassin.
A couple weeks after serving up the first single — “Flat Tummy Tea” — in support of their forthcoming Bandana LP, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib are sharing another song off their anticipated new album. This time around, the critically-acclaimed pairing are debuting Bandana‘s title track using an animated visual put together by visual artist Jeff Jank. “Bandana” features Jamaican dancehall purveyor Assassin, and finds Gibbs at his sharpest and most effective.
“I kinda been working on [Bandana] for some years, ’cause that’s the way you gotta work with Madlib,” Freddie Gibbs previously told The Grinds TV with Bobby James, explaining the process behind his upcoming collaborative project with Madlib. “You can’t just go and just bang out 10 songs in a row… That’s why it’s gonna be so great, because it was really slow-cooked.” In other interviews, Gibbs has also expressed a desire to use Bandana as a platform to tackle a wide array of concepts and subjects; the Gary-bred lyricist has said that Bandana was “so serious” that it took several years to finally deliver it to the public.
You can stream Freddie Gibbs, Madlib and Assassin’s new “Bandana” collaboration above, while Gibbs and Madlib’s new full-length effort is scheduled to see release in the near future via Keep Cool/RCA Records and Madlib Invazion/ESGN. “Bandana” will also be included on the digital-only bonus edition of the Bandana album, and alongside “Flat Tummy Tea” as a 12” vinyl on March 29 via Rappcats.
