Jasper Johns Unveils Dynamic Paintings & Works on Paper for NYC Exhibition
A total of 38 artworks on display at Matthew Marks Gallery.
Heralded for his dynamic works of Abstract Expressionism that helped propelled the Pop Art movement, Jasper Johns continues to push the boundaries of his practice that isn’t restricted to any specific art genre.
The American painter and sculptor is now the subject of a solo exhibition at Matthew Marks Gallery in New York City. Entitled “Jasper Johns: Recent Paintings & Works on Paper,” the showcase features 15 paintings and 23 works on paper that were made as early as 2012. Highlighted works include two 2018 paintings inspired by a LIFE Magazine portrait of a Silver Star American soldier named James Farley who served for the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and two works on paper from his Regrets series created by the 88-year-old talent after his 2014 exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
